Why Paws4 – A bit about me

My main aim is to help dogs and their owners to achieve the best relationship possible, based on trust and understanding. To give owners the ability to make the right choices when training their dog, and to show them how to get the best outcome. Giving your dog the opportunity to offer the correct behaviours rather than incorrect ones.

With over 30 years teaching experience, and a vast understanding of dog behaviour and training, I believe that owning a dog should be one of the greatest pleasures in life. I am qualified with the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT), and I also have a Canine Behaviour Management qualification, have studied Canine Body Language, Canine First Aid, and I am also a level 1 Scentwork UK Instructor.

Having 6 of my own, I am truly passionate about dogs. When I am not working, many of my favourite pastimes involve my own dogs;  I love to walk, take log cabin holidays with the dogs and also participate in Kennel Club Agility competitions. I have a vast knowledge of dogs of all breeds and sizes. As a dog trainer and also a dog owner, I am able to apply best practice through sound, practical advice. I understand how some breeds differ, and that some dogs can be as individual as we are.

With many varying opinions available to us, how do you know you are making the right choice for your dog?

The APDT & IMDT adhere to both force free and reward based training methods. We need to show our dogs what we do want them to do, rather than us telling them what we don’t.

One of the greatest joys as a trainer is to see how the relationship begins to transform between the dog and the owner, when both are shown the right way forward. The saying is true ‘Man’s Best friend’, we just need to find the best way for this relationship to blossom…..and I will help you to find it.

When I first started to train my own dogs many years ago, I honestly thought that after six weeks we would be ready for whatever life threw at us. What I did not realise at the time is that there is no quick fix or short cut, but with patience, consistency and persistence we can achieve most things, and truly get the dog that we have always wanted. Many antiquated views still influence puppy/dog training, however it is important to understand that if we choose the wrong path when training our dog, this could have lasting consequences. I can show you methods and exercises that have been researched and scientifically backed up to ensure you are taking the right path.
